A fetal stroke can have devastating consequences

Pittsburgh parents-to-be can be filled with excitement and anticipation for the upcoming arrival of their new baby. Most births go as planned and the newborn arrives healthy. But occasionally a birth injury occurs that can affect a family forever.

A fetal stroke is a condition that can be caused by a birth injury. A fetal stroke can occur anytime between 14 weeks of gestation through birth. A stroke is usually caused by lack of oxygen to the brain. A lack of oxygen can occur for many reasons including trauma caused by a vacuum or forceps delivery. If doctors are negligent in their use of a vacuum or forceps during a delivery, they can cause irreversible harm to the baby. A fetal stroke can cause cerebral palsy, seizures, speech and language delays, learning disabilities and vision and hearing problems along with other serious conditions. Children often need physical and occupational therapy for decades in order to function in society. This can be extremely expensive for their family.

If a family believes their child's birth injury was the result of a negligent physician, they may want to speak with a legal professional skilled in medical malpractice. An attorney has the experience required to help the family get answers as to what happened to their baby. They can review medical records, consult with medical experts and get the answers the family deserves. Compensation may be available for medical expenses, pain and suffering and other damages.

When a baby is hurt because of a negligent doctor their family can be devastated and subjected to a lifetime of medical expenses. It is important to hold these doctors accountable so that they can't harm anyone else.
