Woman claims surgeon left medical equipment in her knee

Some Pittsburgh residents will need to have surgery at some point. Whether that is a routine or emergency surgery, all surgeries carry risks. But, unexpected surgical errors can lead to serious injuries or even death.

A woman has filed a lawsuit after undergoing surgery for a torn knee ligament and discovering surgical equipment was left inside her knee. The 23-year-old college student underwent surgery in 2014 for a torn ligament. After the surgery she was in a lot of pain and wasn’t getting better. Three days later she returned for an X-Ray where doctors discovered a surgical sponge was left inside. The woman had to undergo three additional surgeries and because of the injury caused by the doctor she can no longer run or play soccer.

No one expects to become the victim of a surgical error but it happens every day across the United States. These “never events” can affect a person and the person’s lifestyle forever. A legal professional skilled in medical malpractice can help a family find out what happened to cause the injury. They can review medical records and consult with medical experts to get the answers families deserve. Doctors should be held accountable for egregious errors that they make. An attorney has the skills to evaluate cases of surgical errors and recover compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering and other damages.

Surgical errors can come in many forms. Surgical equipment can be left inside of a patient, an anesthesiologist can make a mistake, the surgeon can operate on the wrong body party and more. Regardless of the error, a doctor should be held responsible for the person’s mistake so that he doesn’t harm anyone else.
