Pennsylvania man receives large medical malpractice settlement

When a Pittsburgh resident goes to the doctor they assume that the doctor will accurately treat their condition. They don’t expect that they will wind up in a worsened condition. But this is what happened to a Pennsylvania man who claims that a group of doctors failed to diagnose his spinal fracture.

A Crawford County man was awarded over $2 million dollars when a jury decided that three doctors were guilty of medical malpractice. The man went to the Titusville Area Hospital in the summer of 2012 after a 500-pound treetop fell on him. The man was in too much pain to fully lie down for a set of x-rays on his spine. The incomplete set did not detect the spinal fracture. The man wound up paralyzed because of the fracture. He argued that if he would have had a CT scan instead the fracture would have been diagnosed and he would be walking. Instead, he was sent home and a few days later because of the extreme pain he was still in he was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital. By then it was too late and he was paralyzed from the chest down.

When a patient is treated by a negligent physician their lives can be affected forever. No one expects that their doctor won’t be providing the very best care but it happens every day in Pennsylvania and across the United States. A family who believes their loved one was unexpectedly injured because of a negligent physician may want to speak with a legal professional skilled in medical malpractice. An attorney can review medical records, consult with medical experts and get answers for the family. Compensation may be available for medical expenses, future medical expenses and other damages.

A negligent physician can change a family forever. It is important to hold them accountable so that they don’t harm anyone else.
