Negligently Performed Endometrial Ablation Leads to Severe Burns

Surgical Error Leads to Medical Malpractice Settlement

surgical-light-ablation-procedure.jpg

Our client contacted the doctor in question concerning treatment for excessive menstrual bleeding. The doctor scheduled our client for an endometrial ablation - a procedure that destroys the uterine lining which usually reduces or prevents uterine bleeding. The doctor in question never obtained our client's informed consent and withheld the fact that she had never performed an endometrial ablation.

A routine endometrial ablation procedure is a ten minute cycle during which saline solution is heated up to 194 degrees Fahrenheit and circulated through the cervix and uterus. The endometrial ablation performed on our client was aborted prematurely at approximately seven minutes when it was discovered that a large amount of the 194 degree fluid had leaked out of our client's cervix. Our client was forced to lay in a pool of scalding 194 degrees Fahrenheit saline solution while unconscious.

Rather than investigating where the saline solution had leaked to and treating our client for her burns, the doctor simply permitted our client to remain in the scalding fluid and initiated the routine two minute cooling cycle. It was not until our client returned to her house and her anesthesia wore off that she discovered severe burns inside her vagina, on her labia, perineum, anus, rectum, buttocks, and lower back. Rosen Louik & Perry resolved this matter for several hundred thousand dollars.
