Surgical error can cause further injury or worsened condition

Making the decision to go under the knife for a surgical procedure is a big decision. Surgeries can be beneficial for many reasons, but they also come with their own set of risks versus rewards. Even the most routine surgery has the possibility of going wrong and causing harm to the patient. While not all of this risk for injury is due to the negligence of a medical professional or provider, it's possible that their actions or inactions can lead to an unnecessary injury for a loved one in a Pennsylvania hospital.

Sadly, there are many examples in which a surgical error was made that led to a person's unnecessary injury or even death. Doctors and assistants often use a variety of tools when performing a surgery; it's not unheard of for a tool to be left unaccounted for and be sewn up into the patient. Also, anesthesia can sometimes be administered inappropriately and cause injury. Many surgeries do go off without a hitch, but, for those who suffer further injury, it can lead to a worsened medical condition or an entirely new condition for which a person must seek medical care.

When a patient suffers injury due to the negligence of a doctor or healthcare facility, the patient may be able to file a personal injury lawsuit. Beyond medical costs, pain and suffering and loss of quality of life are legitimate claims the injured may have against the defendants. At Rosen Louik & Perry, we have helped many overcome the legal issues surrounding their unnecessary medical injury.

From our personal experience, medical negligence can happen to anyone at anytime. There is often no ill-will on behalf of the accused, however, the impact can be extremely painful for the injured and their family. There is a way to recoup certain losses one has suffered at the hands of a medical decision or action. Surgical accidents should not go unaccounted for.
