Could Your Phone be Harming Your Health?

On September 7th, 2016, Apple announced the release of its newest product-the iPhone 7. In its announcement, Apple disclosed that the new iPhone will jettison the traditional headphone jack in what some say is an attempt to bring back the Bluetooth headset. Apple also developed a wireless set of headphones called AirPods in conjunction with their newest iPhone, but Apple will still supply a set of wired headphones with its new product. Is Apple a generous company or is there more to the story?

Experts in the health field say that the push for wireless headsets should positively impact the health of consumers by reducing radio frequency exposure. A CNN article by Ben Tinker further details this line of thinking. According to Tinker, Apple makes warnings regarding the harmful effects of radio frequency, but it is buried in the fine print. Apple recommends: "To reduce exposure to RF (radio frequency) energy, use a hands-free option, such as the built in speakerphone, the supplied headphones or other accessories. Carry the iPhone at least 5mm away from your body to ensure exposure levels remain at, or below, the as-tested levels." In 2011, the World Health Organization categorized radio frequency as possibly carcinogenic to humans, based on an increased risk of Glioma, a malignant form of cancer in the brain associated with cell phone use. Needless to say, you should be cognizant of the increased radio frequency you are exposed to as a result of any cell phone use. Hands free options are safer than direct contact with the phone, because they emit less dangerous non-ionizing radiation. However, it should be noted that some experts are still weary of hands free devices.

If you developed an unexplained brain tumor, there is a possibility that the tumor was caused by radio frequency energy and you may be entitled to compensation.
