Philadelphia patient awarded millions for medical mistake

Pittsburgh residents trust their medical providers to provide expert and accurate care for their medical conditions. When a medical provider makes a mistake, like the failure to diagnose a serious condition, it can cause a worsened medical condition, even death. A Philadelphia woman recently was awarded a large settlement for suffering from a medical mistake.

A Philadelphia woman was awarded $44 million this past week because of medical malpracticee. The woman suffered a brain hemorrhage because of a reaction to Heparin. She was prescribed the blood thinner after being treated for a benign brain tumor.

The brain hemorrhage caused the woman to be significantly paralyzed. The jury found the hospital (Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania) 65 percent liable and the doctor 35 percent liable.

No one ever expects to be the victim of a medical mistake, but it happens to thousands across the United States each year. If a person believes they have suffered because of a medical mistake, they may want to speak with a legal professional skilled in medical malpracticee. An attorney can review medical records and consult with medical experts to determine what happened to cause the unexpected injury. A patient deserves to know what happened to them for peace of mind. Compensation may be available for medical expenses, future medical expenses, pain and suffering and other damages.

An unexpected medical injury can serious affect a person's health and livelihood. It is important to hold medical providers responsible for their mistakes, so they do not harm anyone else. Medical professionals make mistakes every day and patients have legal rights to protect themselves and their future.
