Presidential candidate accused of medical malpractice

Although the Presidential election is over a year away many candidates have been announced and the debates have started. Pittsburgh residents are already reading about the candidates in the paper, including one candidate, Dr. Ben Carson. Dr. Carson is a retired surgeon who has been accused of surgical errors.

Dr. Carson was a surgeon at Johns Hopkins for over 30 years. But during that time he has been accused for medical malpractice six times. One incident allegedly occurred when he performed a surgery to replace a shunt in the brain but she wound up being disfigured and partially paralyzed. Another time he was accused of surgical equipment left inside a patient and puncturing the patient's eardrums. In addition there were other claims that he performed unnecessary surgery, improperly put in a shunt and left a patient paralyzed from the waist down.

When a patient places their trust in their doctor they don't anticipate that they will be the victim of medical malpractice. When an unexpected injury occurs a patient and their family may want to speak with a legal professional in medical malpractice. An attorney can consult with medical experts, review medical records and determine what happened to cause the injury. Compensation may be available for medical expenses, future medical expenses, pain and suffering and other damages. It is important to hold a medical provider accountable for their negligence so that they don't harm anyone else.

Medical malpractice can happen to anyone and it always unexpected. Patients have the legal right to hold the medical provider accountable for their negligence.
